Robotics Body Shell RFQ — Large-Format AMR Covers, ±0.2mm Sensor Cutouts, Soft-Touch Finishes
Designing an autonomous mobile robot (AMR), a warehouse picker, a service robot, or an industrial cobot enclosure and can’t justify $150k of injection tooling for your first 500–5,000 units? DitaiPlastic is the heavy-gauge thermoforming partner of choice for robotics startups and scaleups across North America, EU, and APAC. We form body shells up to 5000 mm, hold ±0.2mm on sensor/lidar cutouts, apply soft-touch coatings that feel like consumer-grade product, and ship IP54 to IP67 sealed designs for harsh warehouse and outdoor environments.
- Large-format forming up to 5000 mm — single-piece AMR body shells.
- ±0.2mm tolerance on CNC-trimmed lidar, depth-sensor, and camera apertures.
- IP54–IP67 sealed designs with integrated gasket grooves and drainage.

Why Robotics Companies Choose DitaiPlastic
- Tooling at 10% of injection-mold cost — critical for startups iterating through 2–3 design revisions before freeze.
- Large-format capability — single-shot forming up to 5000 mm x 2200mm means one-piece AMR top covers without ugly seam lines.
- Precision sensor integration — CNC-machined lidar windows, ToF camera cutouts, ultrasonic sensor mounts held to ±0.2mm.
- Soft-touch and premium finishes — TPU overmold-like soft-touch coatings, matte / satin / textured finishes that read as consumer-grade.
- Iteration speed — prototype MDF/epoxy tool in 2 weeks, production aluminum tool in 5 weeks. We match your sprint cadence.
Current robotics clients include three AMR companies (warehouse logistics), two service/hospitality robot startups, and one cobot enclosure program. References available under NDA.

Typical Robotics Projects We’ve Delivered
- Warehouse AMR top shell (logistics) — 1800mm x 900mm single-piece PC/ABS, soft-touch coated, integrated lidar window, 3,500 units/year, IP54.
- Service robot torso and head shell — 4mm FR-ABS, gloss white consumer-grade finish, 1,200 units/year, 8 sensor cutouts at ±0.2mm.
- Cobot arm covers (6-axis) — 3mm FR-PC, multi-segment shells with hidden fasteners, 2,500 units/year, UL94 V-0.
- Outdoor delivery robot body — 5mm UV-stable FR-ABS, IP67 sealed, 800 units/year, passed -20°C to +50°C thermal cycling.
Volume ranges: 50 units (prototype fleet) up to 15,000 units/year (scaled deployment). We support MVP builds on prototype tooling, then transition to production tooling as you ramp.
Certifications & Compliance Supported
- UL94 V-0 / HB — flame-retardant materials on request, UL Yellow Card on file.
- ISO 13482 — personal-care robot material suitability (impact, edge, flame).
- IP54 / IP65 / IP67 — sealed enclosure design support.
- EN ISO 12100 — machine safety supporting through material selection and surface finish.
- FCC Part 15 / CISPR 32 — EMI shielding integration where required.
- REACH, RoHS 2, California Prop 65 — declarations on file.
- ISO 9001:2015 — certified QMS.
Materials Best for Robotics Shells
- FR-ABS (UL94 V-0) — primary workhorse. Cost-effective, paintable, easy to soft-touch coat.
- PC/ABS — higher impact for collision-prone AMRs. Excellent low-temp toughness.
- FR-PC (flame-retardant polycarbonate) — premium structural shells and transparent sensor windows.
- TPO — flexible bumper shrouds and soft impact zones.
- Kydex — chemical-resistant industrial robot covers.
What to Include in Your Robotics RFQ
- CAD file — STEP or X_T of shell + internal chassis, sensor locations, mounting bosses.
- Annual volume and expected ramp over 2–3 years.
- Sensor list — lidar, ToF, ultrasonic, cameras — with part numbers for window geometry fit.
- IP rating target.
- Finish spec — color, gloss, soft-touch, Pantone/RAL, logo/branding.
- Operating environment — indoor warehouse, outdoor sidewalk, food-service.
- Target T1 sample date and SOP.
Accepted formats: .step / .stp / .x_t / .iges / .stl / .pdf / .dwg. Include sensor datasheets if window geometry is critical.

Robotics RFQ FAQ
What’s the largest single-piece shell you can form?
5000 mm x 2200mm x 800mm deep. Most AMR top covers fit well inside that envelope in one shot, avoiding seam lines.
Can you hold ±0.2mm on lidar windows?
Yes, via CNC-machined cutouts with a trim fixture. We’ll include the fixture cost in your quote and verify with first-article CMM.
How fast can I get a prototype for a trade show?
2–3 weeks for 1–10 units off an MDF/epoxy prototype tool. Production-representative finish and color if you provide material in time.
Do you offer soft-touch or premium coatings?
Yes — soft-touch PU coatings, matte/satin finishes, rubberized zones, and two-tone paint. We partner with automotive-grade paint lines for A-class finishes.
Can you integrate metal inserts and PEM nuts?
Yes — heat-staked, ultrasonic-installed, or press-in PEM inserts are a standard secondary operation. Spec the insert and we’ll price it in.
